Maryland Association of Nurse Anesthetists

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are highly educated anesthesia experts who provide every type of anesthesia for patients of all ages, for any kind of procedure, and in every healthcare setting. Over 27 states have already taken the step to provide CRNAs the authority to prescribe life-saving and critical medication for anesthesia's effective and safe administration.

Under Maryland law, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist could select and administer “anesthetic agents,” but the code was silent concerning ordering and administering other drugs.

The Maryland Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA) tasked Fells Group to generate positive support for House Bill 55 in the Maryland General Assembly chambers and drive MANA communications with the Maryland General Assembly and Governor’s Office.

Goal:

Assist the Maryland Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA) with bill advocacy and drive messages of support for the bill from Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists to their respective Maryland state legislators.

Strategy:

Fells Group implemented and managed digital ad, patch-through call, email, and letter-writing campaigns to build awareness and support for the House and Senate bills in the Maryland General Assembly chambers. Fells Group utilized text messages, social media, emails, digital ads, and patch-through calls to activate MANA membership to take action and communicate with their elected officials.

Outcome:

The General Assembly received over 500 letters, over 2,000 emails, and 51 calls of support for House Bill 55 from MANA members. House Bill 55 successfully passed both chambers of the Maryland General Assembly and was ultimately sent to the Governor, where it became law.
